Vision boards are wonderful tools to help transform your world. A vision board will help keep your “eyes on the prize” so to speak.
There are many ways you can create a visual depiction of your dreams and desires. I enjoy the process of creating something physical I can hang on a wall, but since so much of my design begins with digital images, I keep both boards handy. For some people, a digital creation is the only way to go. This format will enable you to see your creation on your phone, iPad or even television! I will walk you through the steps to create both a physical vision board you can hang on your wall, or a digital one you can display on any screen.
Before you begin, brainstorm your dreams and desires. Write down anything and everything you can envision for your life. Nothing is silly or superficial. Nothing is too big or too small. This is about manifesting. It can be intrinsic and meaningful like creating deeper connections in your relationships, or external like purchasing a new home or a new car. I like to limit the number of items on my vision board. But you don’t have to. I find it easier to focus on a handful of important things. ‘
If you’re particularly focused on one area of your life, you can create your vision board specifically for that (i.e. career, self-care, relationships). Don’t rush this step. Find a quiet place to reflect. Journal if necessary. If you read my blog, you know this is my favorite tool to clarify my thoughts.
Tangible Vision Board
I have had numerous vision boards over the years. They have varied in size from as small as a sheet of notebook paper, to as large as a poster board. In my youth, before vision boards were a “thing”, I used an entire wall of my bedroom to maintain inspiration and focus. Feel free to go as big as your heart desires!
- Decide what size and type of board you will use. Boards that have worked for me in the past include: a poster board from the dollar store, a magnetic white board, a cork board, a piece of cardboard from an old box, or even an entire wall!
- Gather items that remind you of your goals and dreams, or trigger behaviors that help you stay motivated. These items can be images, words, phrases, quotes, old photos, or postcards. They can be clipped from magazines or flyers, hand drawn by someone, compiled with craft items, or printed from the internet.
- Arrange your items on your board in a way that is meaningful and eye catching. Move things around and play with the items until you are happy with the layout. You can adhere these items to your board in any way you desire. Glue stick, double sided tape, or even mounting putty work well. If you are using a magnetic or cork board just attach the materials with magnets or push pins respectively. Take your time. Enjoy the process.
- Embellish your creation with pens, markers, paint, stickers … whatever suits your fancy! Have fun creating something you enjoy looking at.
- Place the board where you will readily see it. Depending on the size, near the bathroom mirror is a good place, or maybe on your fridge. Just choose a spot where you will see the board frequently.

Digital Vision Board.
- Decide what program you will use to create your board. If you are well versed in MS Word, you can use that to design it. Canva (an online graphic design program) is VERY user-friendly and free to use. Feel free to shoot me an email if you need some help creating digitally.
- Create a digital folder where you can download the images you intend to use on your board. If you have something at home you wish to use, scan it in or just take a photo of it with your phone!
- Choose a template or start from scratch. A vertical template will look better if you intend to view your board on your phone. A horizontal one might be best for your iPad, computer, or television.
- You can add quotes, words, clipart, etc. Arrange your downloaded images in a way that is pleasing to you. Since it is digital, you can resize and move things around easily. Also, you can always undo your work if you are not happy.
- Save your image. Don’t forget to save and export your image. Export your image as a PNG, JPG or GIF to view digitally, or even print it if you desire.

It even has an AI generated image of myself as a nurse so I can SEE it!
Using Your Vision Board
Take time during the day to look at your wonderful creation. Maybe its during your morning self-care routine, or while you’re sipping your coffee? Sometimes it helps to say things out loud. For example: “I have the inner strength to create the world I desire.” “I can do this.”
Ask yourself what steps are necessary to achieve these dreams. If you are struggling with a difficult decision, your board can help remind you of your goals and aspirations.
